What dry texting actually means

Dry texting, dry texter, one word texts, one word responses. The name is the short reply that leaves you holding the conversation.

An average of words per message can hide that. MonLivreSMS shows the share of one-word messages on import, for free.

For Sam, one message in three is a single word.

What people mean by dry texting

A dry text answers and stops. “K.” “Yeah.” “Lol” as the whole message. One dry line is a mood. A share of them, over months, is a habit in this thread.

Length alone is not the whole definition. A short reply with a question in it keeps going. The count here is stricter: messages of a single word. A photo or a voice note alone is not a word.

The average hides the short half

Ten words on average can be essays on one side and “ok” on the other. The share of one-word messages, per person, is what the average erases.

The page only says someone writes the longest messages from about eight words, and only when that is clearly more than the other person, on the order of 1.4 times. A gap of two words does not earn a sentence.

One word is not proof

Some people text everyone that way. Others get short after a fight, or only with you. The percentage shows the habit in this thread. It does not give the reason. A one-word reply in a minute and a one-word reply the next day are two different counts.

A dry texter, counted as a share

On Maya and Sam’s thread, Sam is at 5 words a message, and 34 percent of his messages are one word. Maya is at 11 words, and 5 percent. “K”, “yeah” and “lol”, when they are the whole text, sit inside that 34 percent. One of them is a mood. A third of his messages is what the search calls a dry texter.

11 is past about 8, and 11 is more than 1.4 times 5, so the page can say Maya writes the longest. It does not say Sam does not care. 34 percent is not “always”. A one-word reply in a minute and a one-word reply the next day stay two counts: length, and wait.

Frequently asked questions

Is “ok” a one-word text?

Yes, if the text is a single word. A lone heart, a photo alone or a voice note alone is not counted as a written word.

Does dry texting mean they do not care?

No. It describes length. The reason is a conversation. The figure does not guess it.

Where is the share?

On import in MonLivreSMS. The summary is free.

What about emoji instead of sentences?

Favorite emojis are a separate count, beside this one. They do not replace the share of one-word messages.
