Combine chats from several apps into one book
A story rarely stays in one app. You meet on Instagram, you continue on WhatsApp, a few lines land in texts.
Two separate printouts lose the order. One book, one timeline, and a PDF with it.
A reader cannot tell that the Instagram "see you soon" answers yesterday's WhatsApp. One sequence shows it.
Why one timeline
The start is often in a different app from the rest. Print WhatsApp on one side and Instagram on the other, and the reader loses the sequence. One timeline puts « when do we meet » back where it happened.
One sequence
Messages line up by date, whichever app they came from.
Separate files
Each export stays whole. You do not merge them into a document first.
A chapter
You can keep only the stretch that matters.
That is for a keepsake. It is also how you reread one period without opening four apps. If you need a dated copy to show someone, start from keep a chat with its dates.
Two books side by side make you guess. "I'll call" on Instagram may answer a morning text. Without both times, the line just floats.
Export each app before you mix anything
Keep one file per source. WhatsApp gives a .txt or a ZIP. Instagram gives the Meta archive. So does Messenger. Telegram is prepared on a computer. Texts: the iPhone and Android guide.
Do not paste everything into one Word document. You lose reliable dates. Add the exports as they are. Sorting happens after, on a copy.
For each file, note the first date and the last. If an export stops in the middle of a month, you see it before printing, not after.
Before you combine them
Photos on the page, voice behind a QR
In the book, photos from the thread are printed. Videos and voice notes stay reachable through a QR code, because paper cannot play audio. You pick the dates, the cover, a short note at the front.
For a couple, the dedicated steps are here: a couple's chat as a book. You can keep one chapter, not every year.
On the page, the photo stays next to the line that came with it. A voice note does not play on paper: a QR opens the file if it was in the export.
What they turn through
They see one sequence, not three apps. The dates come from the files. The PDF carries the same material, so you can read it before the paper arrives.
The order, once the book is open
At the start, a Tuesday on WhatsApp. In the middle, that evening's Instagram photo. At the end, the next morning's text. Two separate printouts do not have that continuity.
The Tuesday
The evening message answers the morning one, even if the app changed.
The photo
It stays near the sentence, not in a separate booklet.
The PDF
The same sequence, readable at once, before the paper.
If the story is mostly a couple's, the next step is here: pick the chapter. If you are unsure about uploading the files, read what the upload changes.
From the bubble to the book
The threads you joined sit in one place. A first name, and you land on the bubble.
Search
A word or a first name. The bubble comes back.
The time
The date and time from the app, on the message.
The book
The preview first. The printed object next, with the PDF.
In the app, a word or a first name is enough to find the bubble. Every message keeps the date and time from the chat. You choose where the book starts and where it stops, you leave out what does not belong, then you flip through the preview. Photos stay on the page. A voice note or a video opens from the QR code. The PDF comes with the book.
Common questions
Do I merge everything by hand?
No. Export each app, then add the files. Messages line up by date. You can drop a thread before printing.
What if the names do not match?
That happens: an Instagram handle and a WhatsApp first name. You tie them to the same person before the book is fixed.
Is the PDF extra?
It comes with the order. The printed book follows, with photos on the page.
Do you have to print everything?
No. You can keep a single year, or a single chapter. The rest stays in the files, not on the paper.
