Scammed in a chat? Save the thread
If money has left, the first call is to the bank or the payment app. You save the chat afterwards, for the report.
Do not send a second payment to « unlock » a refund. This page does not get the money back for you.
Money first: the bank or the payment app. The thread comes after, so you can keep what was said, not so you can send more.
The bank or the payment app first
Once a payment has gone, time matters. Call the bank, the card, or the service that took the money. Ask whether they can still stop the transfer. Write down the name of the person you spoke to, and the time.
The payment
You stop it where the money left.
The number in the thread
That is not customer support. You do not call it back.
The time
You write it down. It places what you did next.
Do not follow a link in the chat to « cancel ». That link often comes from the same thread. Open the app or the site yourself.
The number to call is your bank's, or the app that sent the money, not the one the thread gives you. Write down the time of the call.
Then the thread, with dates
Keep the chat as it is: offers, pictures of a « payment received » they sent you, an account number, a handle. Do not delete the thread to make it look tidy.
You prepare the copy the same way as elsewhere: keep a dated copy. On WhatsApp: the export.
Only then, the export. It keeps the displayed name, the promises, the amounts, the dates. You do not reply in order to get one more sentence.
In the thread, afterwards
Report it, without another payment
A « blocked » refund that asks for a fee is not a refund. Stop sending money and codes. Report the profile in the app, and the payment to the service that processed it.
If a tool will read the file, know what you are handing over: an export is not anonymous. For a real purchase that went wrong, that is another page: messages with a seller.
Reporting it on the platform, if there is a form, happens without another payment and without another link the profile sends you. A dated copy is prepared as here: keep a dated copy.
Not one more coin in the thread
The folder is for showing what happened. It is not for "unlocking" a transfer.
What the thread still holds
Reread three things: the profile name, the promise, the amount. If they are in the export with their times, you can show the thread. The bank statement stays a separate document.
The profile
The displayed name, as the file captured it.
The promise
The sentence, with its time, not a summary.
The statement
It says the money. The thread says the words.
Do not send an identity document back into that chat to "verify". That is often the next step of the scam.
Find the line, then the book
The thread stays there to consult. You search the link, the number, the time.
Search
The word, the name. You land back on the bubble.
The time
The message's time, not the screenshot's.
The book
To reread, in your hands. The PDF is included. The outcome is decided elsewhere.
In the app, a word or a first name is enough to find the bubble. Every message keeps the date and time from the chat. You choose where the book starts and where it stops, then you flip through the preview. Photos stay on the page. A voice note or a video opens from the QR code. The PDF comes with the book. The book is for holding the conversation and rereading it. It does not say what a court, a consulate, a bank or an insurer will do with it.
Common questions
Do I freeze the account or export first?
If a transfer just went out, contact the bank or the payment service first. The export can wait a few minutes. The call should not.
Which messages should I keep?
The promise, the amount, the profile name, the details they sent you, and the dates.
Does a PDF bring the money back?
No. It helps you tell the facts to the team handling the report.
Should you keep talking to "catch them"?
No. One more message can become one more payment. You stop, you tell the bank, you keep the thread that is already there.
